Eye & Vision Exams

Eye Care Includes Regular Eye and Vision Exams

While working, reading, using technology, or simply enjoying the outdoors, our eyes work from the first time they open until we give them breaks during rest or sleep. The eyes spend time adjusting, contracting, resting, and receiving information to send to your brain to interpret as images. Throughout a person's lifetime, that is a lot of work!

There are several things you can do to be good to your eyes, including giving them a break from staring at screens the majority of the day, using sunglasses when you're out and about, drinking plenty of water, and not wearing the wrong prescription for your eyes. Included in this list are yearly eye and vision exams. You should get one even if you don't feel anything is wrong with your eyes.

Our Optometrist Can See Things You Cannot

In this case, our optometrist can see signs of early diseases, the early formation of potential hereditary eye issues, and other problems. By looking inside your eyes, our optometrist can check your eye, pupil, and iris responses, and check the health of your corneas. He can see to the back of your eye to examine the condition of the eye itself and check for inflammation, wear, and overuse.

How the Eye and Vision Exam Works

When you come into our office, we’ll talk with you about your current vision experiences, medicines and supplements you might be taking, what you do for work, the lighting conditions when you recreationally read, how much time you spend outdoors or driving, the type of sunglasses you wear, and more. We'll gather information about health conditions in your family to provide a balanced approach to the rest of the screenings we’ll perform.

After this, the eye exam can begin. Dr. Jamie Reid will start to examine your eyes and their responses to light or air. He'll take digital pictures of the inside of your eyes. He may need to dilate your eyes to do this, but it is not always necessary.

Finally, the vision test evaluates how well you see up close and at distances. You'll be provided with things to read in the light and the dark at various lengths. Measurements are taken to see the different fracture levels you're seeing.

Upon completion, Dr. Jamie Reid will provide recommendations for your specific situation. He might recommend corrective lenses for reading, driving, or both. He will also discuss any early warning signs he might find and proper recommendations on how to prevent them going forward.
